Safeguarding Children (Pt. 1): Trauma-Informed and Therapeutic Practice
Essential trauma-informed and therapeutic safeguarding training for professionals supporting children with EBD, complex trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Learn to look beyond behaviour, understand the impact of trauma and respond in ways that build safety, trust, emotional regulation and positive relationships.
About this course
A powerful and essential course for professionals supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), complex trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Trauma can profoundly affect a child’s emotional regulation, behaviour, relationships, ability to trust adults and sense of safety. Without a trauma-informed approach, behaviours linked to fear, distress and past experiences can easily be misunderstood as simply challenging, disruptive or defiant.
This course helps professionals look beyond the behaviour to understand what may be happening for the child underneath it. Learners explore how trauma and adverse experiences can shape development and behaviour, and how therapeutic, relationship-based practice can help children feel safe, build trust, regulate emotions and develop healthier ways of coping.
Through engaging video and audio content, interactive flashcards, realistic scenarios and dynamic e-learning activities, learners will develop practical approaches they can apply directly in residential childcare and other care settings. The course moves beyond simply managing behaviour and supports professionals to respond with greater understanding, consistency and therapeutic purpose—while maintaining clear boundaries and effective safeguarding practice.
