About this course

Safeguarding Children (Pt. 2): Trauma-Informed and Therapeutic Practice – Practice and Application takes learners beyond understanding trauma and into the practical application of trauma-informed safeguarding.

The course explores how everyday interactions, relationships, communication and professional responses can directly increase or reduce a child’s sense of safety. Learners will develop practical skills in co-regulation, emotional safety, therapeutic relationship-building and communication that lowers threat and promotes engagement.

The course challenges traditional approaches based primarily on control and behaviour management, helping professionals understand what may sit behind a child’s behaviour and respond with curiosity, consistency and therapeutic purpose while maintaining clear boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities.

Learners will explore how to create predictable and emotionally safe environments, work effectively with other professionals, share information appropriately and maintain strong professional accountability. The course also encourages practitioners to examine their own responses, assumptions and potential biases through reflective practice.

Through practical scenarios, reflection and applied learning, the course brings these principles together to help professionals embed trauma-informed and therapeutic safeguarding into everyday practice—supporting children to feel safer, build trust, regulate emotions and develop healthier relationships with the adults caring for them.
