Level 3 Practitioner Physical Intervention
A comprehensive Level 3 Practitioner blended Physical Intervention programme combining two online theory modules with a face-to-face practical training and assessment day. Learners develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills required to prevent, de-escalate and safely respond to situations where physical intervention may become necessary, with a strong emphasis on therapeutic practice, trauma-informed care, person-centred approaches and the use of least restrictive interventions.
About this course
This Level 3 Physical Intervention training programme combines two comprehensive e-learning modules with a practical team-based training and assessment session.
The programme is designed for practitioners working with children and young people who may experience distress, heightened emotions or behaviour that presents risk. It develops the knowledge, judgement and practical skills needed to prevent escalation, respond safely and understand the professional responsibilities associated with physical intervention.
Module 1. Physical Intervention: Prevention, Proactive Care and De-escalation
This module focuses on preventing situations from reaching the point where physical intervention may be considered. Practitioners explore proactive care, recognising early signs of distress and escalation, understanding behaviour as communication, professional responses, de-escalation, environmental factors, relationship-based practice and safer decision-making.
Module 2. Physical Intervention: Legal Framework, Safe Practice and Accountability
This module develops practitioners’ understanding of the legal, safeguarding and professional framework surrounding physical intervention. It considers when intervention may be justified, proportionality, necessity, least-restrictive practice, safeguarding responsibilities, risk, accountability, recording, reporting, management oversight and learning following an incident.
Practical Techniques and Assessment
The programme also includes one team practical session covering approved physical intervention techniques and practical assessment. This provides an opportunity for practitioners to demonstrate their understanding and application of safer practice under appropriate instruction and assessment.
The complete package is priced at £200, and includes:
- Module 1. Prevention, Proactive Care and De-escalation
- Module 2. Legal Framework, Safe Practice and Accountability
- One team practical techniques session
- A practical assessment
The programme brings together prevention, knowledge, safer practice and practical competence, with the emphasis firmly on reducing the need for physical intervention wherever possible, and ensuring that any intervention is approached within clear safeguarding and professional boundaries.
